I'm now semi retired from the oilfield and living with my wife on a small sailboat. I do have other income coming in but wanted to supplement it so that we could still travel and maintain the quality of life that we had while I was working full time. I tried for a time working at Home Depot but found that even part time working for a major corporation is about as bad as still working full time.
Here is How My Own Experience Has Gone So Far and These Are My Honest Results:
Starting Out, Amazon Associates
In April of 2008 I started dabbling in "internet marketing". I set up a couple of sites on Amazon.com that contain Amazon "aStores". One is at The Oilfield Bookstore . Since I have an extensive background in the oil and gas industry it was natural for me to make a site about it and put up an Amazon associates bookstore. Each month I sell a few books from that site as well as generate Google adsense revenue of about $30 per month which pays for hosting.
I am now earning around $300 per month off of Amazon.com as an associate or affiliate selling mostly books about the oilfield.

Adding Clickbank.
I began creating a few other sites, dealing with computer issues such as cleaning your registry and added the affiliate program from Clickbank.com Clickbank pays a high commission on the product you sell (mostly downloads and e-books) so one sale can equal twenty from Amazon.
I am now making approximately $180 per month off of Clickbank.com

Branching Out With '"saucy sites".
I had been reading for some time on the various forums about the amount of revenue affiliates were earning from "adult dating" sites and decided to add them to the mix. I chose Loadedcash.com and another with the amusing name of Pimpmansion.com
. Both deal with adult dating and social networking as well as traditional dating services. (I prefer to think I am getting commissions from the traditional dating sites, LOL!
The commission you earn for each new signup is around $45 and I average fifteen or more sign up a month for $600 per month and I buy about $280 of keywords for these sites on Adwords so my profit is about $350.. Since I joined each in May, lumped together here are my stats:

The mix of these brings my total monthly income, last month's figure, to just around $1000. Not bad for retirement spending money.
You will most likely start out slow, with a trickle of Adsense income from your site of a few cents, as I did, and then as your sites are indexed in the search engines will see a few sales from Amazon. I used the free Adwords dollars ($50) that I got from Google and at first bought keywords for oilfield books. Now I only use them from the "saucy sites" where I am getting back about half of the Adwords money spent, for a profit of 50%.
You will need a fast internet connection, a web page program like Frontpage 2003 and a few hours each week to get started.
